The Crags Centre

A group of basketball volunteers re-opened The Crags Centre in 2011. What was once a symbol of failure has become a sustainable social enterprise delivering social outcomes through sport.

Blaze Basketball Club offers competitive and recreational playing opportunities to people in Edinburgh and beyond.

Founded in 1961 in the basement of Boroughmuir High School, Blaze has a long history of providing opportunities to young people and welcoming basketball players of all abilities. Weekly activities are offered for recreational women, wheelchair participants and children & young people with additional support needs; alongside competitive male and female squads at under 10, 12, 14, 16, 18 and adult age groups.

The current focus for Blaze is to offer more competitive opportunities to members while striving to become more inclusive and equitable.

The Crags is a second-home for a wide range of people, clubs and community groups. The Centre runs with a unique model that gives regular customers an active role in the running of the spaces.

We’re not your typical sports centre. There are no grumpy janitors, just people who care about changing lives through sport.
